Kema and Lawrence’s Wedding — A Gothic Fairytale Story

Congratulations Kema and Lawrence!  You two look wonderful together.  May your love for each other continue to grow each day.

Kema is a red girl, which means she must have red in her wedding.  The groom prefers to have some black and white element in the wedding to keep it formal.  When the couple told me that their wedding colour is red, black, and white, the word “Gothic” immediately just crossed my mind.  However, having a totally Gothic wedding may be too taboo for the couple’s family.  Also, Kema would like to have a fairytale wedding, just like how many girls dream to have one for their wedding day.

Who would imagine that a fairytale wedding can be combined with a Gothic-coloured theme?  Well, we sure pull this one off.  We have used red and black as accent colours, to make these bold colours more stealth.  To achieve a fairytale look, we have used twinkle lights everywhere — backdrop, tables, and the arch.  We have also added a ceiling drape to soften the atmosphere.

Below are some of the photos taken from hall, note that this hall has been decorated for dual usage (ceremony and reception).  The arch is removed after the ceremony, the ceremony chairs are re-used for the guest tables, and the ceremony table is used as the cake table after the ceremony.

Leila and Johnny’s Wedding Flowers — A Heartfelt Wedding

Congratulations Leila and Johnny!  May your love bloom brighter and your companionship grow sweeter with each passing year.

Leila is definitely an unique bride.  On our first meeting, she already told me that she wouldn’t settle for any wedding flower that looks ordinary.  She then told me that the only interesting bouquet she has ever seen is a bouquet with circular patterns.  Immediately, I knew she was referring to the biedermeier bouquet.  With the biedermeier bouquet, its blooms are tightly-structured and carefully-arranged in defined circular patterns of different coloured flowers, each ring containing one type of flower.

During the rest of our consultation, I discussed with Leila some other elements which can make bouquets more special, such as building them in heart-shape, adding bouquet jewellery, etc. Immediately, she adored those ideas and wanted to combine them with the biedermeire bouquet.

Traditionally, a well-structured heart-shaped bouquet requires using many blooms to form a balanced heart shape.  Using too little flowers would give the bouquet a diamond-shaped look (like the Superman logo!).  This implies that the heart-shaped biedermeier would require a lot of flowers, since we would need many blooms to give the inner-heart a nice heart shape, and even more flowers to form the outter-heart.  However, this would not be an option because the bride has requested not to build her bouquet too big.

Building this bridal bouquet is sure a challenge!  In order to create a well-defined heart-shape, we would need to position each flower precisely at the right location and at the exact angle.  Below, it is a heart-shaped biedermeier bouquet built by another florist, which is not as attractive, looks flat, and resembles a diamond more than a heart.

Now, compare what we have made for our bride (photos below) with the heart-shaped biedermeier bouquet built by the other florist (photo above). Our bouquet is more round and retains its heart-shape. We did not use a lot of flowers as the bride has requested so. We have also spiced up the bouquet by adding Swarvoski jewel picks and crystals to the bouquet handle.

Susanna’s Bridal Bouquet – Simply Purple, Stunningly Beautiful

Susanna is getting married in Punta Cana, but before she flies to the south for her destination wedding, she is having her civil ceremony in Toronto.  To keep things simple, Susanna ordered a purple bridal bouquet for herself only.

There are not that many types of purple seasonal flower around during the winter months, but iris is one of the few available ones.  Although the shape of the flower is very pretty and unique, iris is not an easy flower to work with.  Iris has a very short vase life, and it is extremely sensitive to humidity changes.  To ensure the iris would not open up too quickly, we have wired each iris individually to control its bloom size.  We have also conditioned them thoroughly to ensure their petals retain its moisture and would not wrinkle-up.

Here are some photo of the happy couple and the bouquet.  Enjoy!

We are glad that Susanna loves her bridal bouquet.  Below is a thank-you letter from the bride.
